Tackling Child Exploitation (including localised ‘street’ grooming)

In July 2011, the Child Exploitation On-line Protection Centre (CEOP) published its thematic assessment of Child Sexual Exploitation of the phenomenon known as ‘localised grooming,’ following media attention on adult males grooming children for sexual exploitation in town and cities across the Country.

CEOP is known for its work on on-line grooming, but this latest report concentrates on ‘street grooming’ and points out that few LSCBs have implemented key aspects of guidance contained in Safeguarding Children and Young People from Sexual Exploitation (DCSF 2009) and that front line professionals’ awareness is limited.

Research has shown that where police, children’s services and voluntary sector agencies have worked together, coordinated by LSCBs, to identify and address child exploitation, a significant number of cases have come to light. This training assists in pulling agencies together to respond effectively and appropriately to a threat that too often goes unchecked and leaves children at risk of harm.

David Niven was a member of the national consultation group for the recent CEOP thematic report and so David Niven Associates, is able to provide one day training aimed at key professionals such as, Residential Care Staff, Foster Carers, Designated Teachers, Police, YOT. Children’s Social Care Teams, NGOs, General Practice Teams
